Scripture Lesson of the day: John 4:43-54, NLT
Is your faith in Jesus based on what He can do for you or on who He is?
Faith lessons learned at Cana:
- Faith grows when exercised!
“Jesus went again to visit Cana in Galilee where he had changed the water into wine. One of the king’s important officers lived in the city of Capernaum, and his son was sick. When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to Jesus and begged him to come to Capernaum and heal his son, because his son was almost dead. Jesus said to him, ‘You people must see signs and miracles before you will believe in me’” (John 4:46-48, NCV).
In what way(s) has your faith been exercised recently?
- Faith stretching methods require obedience!
“Jesus answered, ‘Go. Your son will live.’ The man believed what Jesus told him and went home. On the way the man’s servants came and met him and told him, “Your son is alive’” (John 4:50-51, NCV).
What was the faith stretching dilemma the official faced?
Key understanding: You must learn to take Jesus at His word. Jesus displayed compassion and speed in healing the royal official’s boy. He did so in a faith stretching way…a long distance healing!
- Saving faith has a ripple effect!
“The man asked, ‘What time did my son begin to get well?’ They answered, ‘Yesterday at one o’clock the fever left him.’ The father knew that one o’clock was the exact time that Jesus had said, ‘Your son will live.’ So the man and all the people who lived in his house believed in Jesus” (John 4:52-53, NCV).
3 faith stretching stages:
1. Jesus as a miracle worker
2. Jesus as a divine healer
3. Jesus as a personal Savior
Which stage best describes your faith in Christ today?
Is your saving faith having a ripple effect on your family and friends?
Closing Challenge: Do you need a miraculous sign to see Jesus for who He really is? If you do then you will stay stuck in the quagmire of unbelief. Instead allow your faith to reveal the most important spiritual realization about Jesus…He is your Savior!
