A Savior is Born to You… A Forgiver of your Past!
Scripture Lesson for the Day: Matthew 1:18-21
Cornerstone Text: “She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21, NIV).
Is there something in your past that you wish you could take back or at the very least forget?
A Savior is born to you because…
> You have a desperate need!
“…he will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21b, NIV).
> God has a strategic plan to meet your need!
“She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21, NIV).
What does forgiveness mean to you? How can I experience the forgiveness of God?
> God wants you to experience His forgiveness! (See Psalm 32:1-5, 11)
“But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong” (1 John 1:9, NLT).
- You receive a fresh new start!
“Count yourself lucky, how happy you must be – you get a fresh start, your slate’s wiped clean” (Psalm 32:1, The Message).
- You are freed from the burdens of guilt and shame!
“I finally admitted all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide them. I said to myself, ‘I will confess them to the Lord.’ And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone” (Psalm 32:5, TLB).
- When guilt and shame are removed your confidence and joy is restored.
Is guilt and shame robbing you of your confidence and joy today?
“Happy is the person whom the LORD does not consider guilty and in whom there is nothing false” (Psalm 32:2, NCV).
2. When guilt and shame are removed your relationships can be healed.
3. When guilt and shame are removed you are released from the chains of your past.
Do you continuously replay your sins over and over and over in your mind?
- When guilt and shame are removed you can praise God with a clear conscience!
“Good people, rejoice and be happy in the LORD. Sing all you whose hearts are right” (Psalm 32:11, NCV).
“O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask your aid. Listen closely to my prayer, O LORD; hear my urgent cry”
(Psalm 86:5-6, NLT).
